For the past few months I was feeling tiiired every morning and honestly it would last a bit into the early afternoon. So I decided to make a big change. I realized my morning routine compared to my weekend morning routine was awful. What I'd used to do was to wake up as late as I could, quickly shower, get ready, not eat breakfast, and rush to work. Needless to say this wasn't working out, at all.
Then I stumbled on this great article by Jezebel and decided to integrate some of the advice into making a better and more sustainable morning routine. I have been at it for two weeks and man oh man my energy level, focus, and overall happiness has changed drastically for the better. So I thought I'd share my new daily morning routine:
Wake up a lot earlier- I used to shower and be out the door in about 25min and now I wake up over an over before I'm set to leave, take my time, and enjoy getting ready.
Stretch- The first thing I do is stretch out! I usually do a set of about 5 sun salutations.
Drink warm lemon water- I've talked a lot before about the benefits of hot lemon water and I've started consistently drinking it again every morning. It's great for cleaning out your system and waking up your metabolism for the day.
Shower- of course.
Drink more water!- I'm pretty bad about drinking the suggested amount of water for a day so I starting Cameron Diaz's morning water drinking ritual.
Meditate- I have been wanting to take up meditation for a while because I've seen the great effects it has with my boyfriend's mother. She's so calm- all the time! It's great. So I downloaded this app and it guides me through my daily morning meditation. What's also great about it is that you can see who is just meditated with you around the world and send each other encouraging messages. I really love it.
Lather up- I think taking of yourself on the inside is really important but so is on the outside. Every morning I wear moisturizing body lotion, moisturizer, sunscreen, and lip balm with sunscreen. Taking care of your skin is so important! I also try to use as many natural and organic products as I can. Here are some of favorites:
Wear something adorable- because, duh.
Eat!- Oatmeal with peanut butter and bananas everyday and the recipe is super easy: 1/2 cup of oatmeal (gluten free), 1/2 cup of soy milk, mix and warm up for 2 minutes. Then cut in bananas and a spoonful of peanut butter. It takes about 2 minutes to prepare! I also drink a green juice on my way to work.
Go outside and conquer the day!
