I dream about overalls...

There are a few things that I'm currently obsessed with at the moment: binge watching House of Cards, singing love songs to my boyfriend, our new kitten Madeline, the Real Housewives of Orange County, and overalls! Okay, so that was more than a few things but regardless I've had the itch to start sporting my 90s overalls lately. To top off my  Full House style daydreams they are back in fashion! Thank you fashion gods! Anyway here is a round up of some of fav overalls that can be found at your local store  or online and the pair that I just bought and love!

These overalls from Citizens of Humanity look so cozy and comfortable

Loving these darker wash overalls from Madewell

Short overalls are my jam right now, this pair from Go Jane are super cute and affordable!

One of my favorite bloggers, Naomi, in her fab overalls!

Loving my new pair of Urban Outfitter overalls!

Shopping For a Winter Coat

1

Lately I have been on the hunt for a warm and totes adorbs winter coat. Being that New York, and most places, get pretty cold I think it's important to get a coat that has the following 3 things:

Length:

A good way to decide what length your coat should be is to keep in mind the rest of your wardrobe. So if you mostly wear knee-length dresses then don't get a pea coat or a coat that hits you mid-thigh  but one that goes with most of your wardrobe. Also of course keep in mind how cold it gets where you live.

Make Sure It Closes:

Make sure it has buttons, snaps, or zips all the way up. Sure that open front coat looks really nice, but when a snowy breeze blows your way you might as well not be wearing it!

Material:

Always, always try on a coat and gauge if the fabric of the coat is appropriate for the typical winter weather in your area.  For a coat to last, it should be a good quality coat so make sure if you’re buying something wool that it’s always the biggest percentage on the tag and avoid acrylic!

+ Here are some pictures of my coat hunting adventure!

Obsessed with this pale pink poncho from Anthropologie

This coat was warmer but not my fav

I've decided cobalt blue is going to be my jam this winter but I'm still on the fence about this one

+ P.S. I'm day dreaming of this pale pink coat from Club Monaco...it's bananas!

Winter Party Dress Essentials

Yes it's true, winter is still happening and even though some people around the world are enjoying wonderful weather however for us New Yorkers our winter days are still full of cold wind, rain, and upcoming snow! Well, this weekend is my froomie's birthday party (friend + roomie) so I wanted to talk about what are some realistic and adorbs winter party dress essentials while it's still cold.

Fortunately there are a plethora of splurge and steal options out there and here is my roundup below:

Get a fab dress. Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean that you have to wear long sleeve-everything! This DVF dress gives hints of Spring with the beautiful blush colored pink.

If you've been paying attention to the runways or what Joe Zee, creative director of Elle, has been fancying, black and in white dresses are not only in but everywhere (hello Oscar dresses!) This Zara dress does a great job of covering a little bit more up and playing into the black/white trend.
Prabal Gurung for Target. This dress. Enough said.
Layer up! I wear dresses for about 90% of the year and I've found that the only way to keep up my dress addiction when it's chilly is to layer up! Gap has so many great cardigans to put over your dress that will still show off your party attire.
Keep layering! Putting a chic blazer on top of your dress and cardigan will not only keep you warm but also keep you looking sexy and feminine. LC Lauren Conrad for Khol's has some great options.
Pair your look with the proper coat. The other day my friend Corinne called her long puffer coat the "I'll never get laid again coat." Trust me looking chic and staying warm is a constant challenge for me and everyone who lives in a super cold climate but investing in a sleek and warm coat will do the job and have you not looking like a marshmallow. I'm in love with this one from J.Crew.
Here's another great coat option from ModCloth.
Tights tights baby! Wearing tights are just essential to allowing you to wear a dress in the winter and staying warm. Gap has so many great colored, patterned, and solid options.

Now go out and par-tay! Have a great weekend loves.

One Word: Spanx.

Hello blog buddies, I've been a little M.I.A I know. This new year has been a little bananas as far as trying to set an even more balanced routine for myself especially since work has been uber busy! I hope your Valentines Day was wonderful. I got a lot of roses from loved ones and had a great dinner with girlfriends at Dino BBQ. However I think my favorite part of Valentines Day was when one of my students came up to me in the early morning hollering "Miss Ramirez, today is book club right? Man I love Thursdays!"
1

Anyway now lets get into it, do any of you wear Spanx? Hehe, I know random question right but I've been hearing how a lot of women wear them and just rave about them. The other day I bought this dress from Anthropologie and it looked great (if I say so myself) but I still wanted it to look more structured so I popped into another store and bought some Spanx. Yes, that's right I've entered womanhood?? Okay all joking aside I now see why women love to love them or love to hate them. They can make you feel "grandma-ish" and "unfeminine" however to me if it makes a dress look well structured then why not?

My Ma has been wearing them for years and she loves them, she has all kinds as well, long ones, short, and full body. I'm tellin' ya girl is on her Spanx game. Also many celebs say that they don't know what they'd do if Spanx were not there to give them some support- literally. The shape wear has become so popular that there is even Spanx for men, pregnant women, swimsuits, and active wear! I mean there must be some reason why founder Sara Blakeley's business grew from $5,000 to over a billion in such a short time span, right? However I'd like to know, what do you think about shape wear? Have you worn them? Do you feel that they're sending the wrong message? Or do you just love them?
